“We’ve always dreamed of living a bit higher up with a better view and having ski-in/ski-out access. So when the opportunity arose in the new area, we jumped at it,” says Ola.
From plot to home
Ola has experience with building. Together with his wife Anita, he has designed and built houses before, so the decision to do it again felt natural. With help from Tegsnäshus for the formal architectural and structural drawings required for the building permit, their dream house took shape.
“Most things have gone smoothly. Of course, there are always a few minor hiccups with a project of this size, but nothing we couldn’t resolve together with the various contractors.”
They have thought carefully about the floor plan. With six adults and soon seven grandchildren, space is essential. Their advice to others thinking about building? “Make sure to build a large hallway and provide good storage for all your clothes and gear,” Ola replies.
The first few weeks
Being the first to move into a new area has its charm. Ola and Anita are incredibly happy with their new house and the floor plan they created. But they are also looking forward to what’s to come.
“Being first is always fun. But naturally, we are also looking forward to getting neighbors,” says Ola.

When we ask Ola to describe Syterbyn to someone unfamiliar with the area, he highlights everything that is in the works: the new ski area with the chairlift, the restaurants, the square with activities and shops. The vision of what this place can become!
“We would love to see all the ideas in the prospectus become reality. This could become a new Åre, but in a smaller and more secure format.”
For Ola and Anita, it was about getting in early and being able to influence the process themselves. Now that the house is finished and life in Syterbyn has begun, they look forward to the area growing around them. More neighbors, more opportunities, more experiences.
