The development of Syterbyn continues to make great strides. The timeline for the first lift is now set, and by Christmas 2026, visitors will be able to ride the lift and explore the new ski area for the first time. This marks one of the most important milestones yet in the biggest transformation in Hemavan's history.
Syterbyn is a brand-new mountain area emerging between the Syterbäcken valley and the majestic peaks of the Syter massif. New slopes, accommodations, and trails are being created here to form a modern and sustainable mountain destination. The upcoming lift will be a central part of the area, opening up a whole new terrain with skiing for all levels.
We are pleased to announce that the first lift in our new Syterbyn ski area will be ready by Christmas 2026. The new lift will open up even more skiing, including more groomed runs, playful forest skiing, and magnificent views that may feel new even to guests who have visited Hemavan in previous years. The new lift is a key milestone in the development of Syterbyn and a major step in Hemavan's continued growth as the Nordic region's most sustainable and accessible year-round mountain destination.
Says Markus Eriksson, CEO of Hemavan Alpint.
With the lift in place, Syterbyn will be more clearly connected to Hemavan's existing ski system. This gives both visitors and future residents entirely new access to the mountain—from the open views of the high alpine to the sheltered mountain birch forests and down toward the valley.
Combined with the planned slopes, a future center with restaurants and services, and various types of new accommodation, Syterbyn is now taking clear steps toward becoming one of the most exciting mountain projects in the Nordic region.
Christmas 2026 will mark the start of a new era in Hemavan. And this is just the beginning.
– Syterbyn is our biggest investment ever in Hemavan and demonstrates our long-term commitment to creating one of Sweden's most exciting and sustainable mountain areas. We have invested a total of around 200 million SEK in the Hemavan ski experience, and the investment in the new lift adds another 30 million SEK. The lift is a central part of Syterbyn's development and will help attract more visitors to Hemavan, says Christian Björklöf, Chairman of the Board at Hemavan Alpint.
