Interview: The vision for the central area

The Syterbyn central area is a key part of the development of the entire region. We asked project manager Thomas Ringbrant to tell us more about the vision, the atmosphere, and the opportunities ahead.

What kind of feeling do you want people to have when they step into the Syterbyn central area for the first time?
We want it to feel like a place where you want to stay—a mountain village that is warm, vibrant, and welcoming, with a natural pulse but also a sense of calm. We want you to step in from the mountains, be met by light in the windows, people on the move, and the delicious aromas from the restaurants, and feel that this is something authentic, all year round.

How do you see Syterbyn and the center developing over the next 5 to 10 years?
Our ambition is to create an area that grows gradually but with a clear direction. The center will be the hub where accommodation, services, and skiing meet. As the area develops, more businesses, more beds, and a wider range of offerings will be added, always with respect for the location and nature.

Syterbyn is an integral part of Hemavan's development as a strong year-round destination.

What opportunities do you want to create for businesses looking to establish themselves in the area?
We want to create the conditions for people and companies to help build something long-term. This means locations with direct access to skiing, a center that gathers guest flows, and a place with room for both larger establishments and smaller, personal concepts.

An important part of the vision is to secure a high-quality hotel in the central area, a hub that can contribute life, service, and experiences all year round. There is a unique opportunity here to be involved early in the development of a new mountain destination and shape something that will be significant for both the location and its guests.

Accessibility to the area will also be further strengthened in the future. In addition to direct flights to Hemavan, the planned new airport in Mo i Rana, Norway, is within a reasonable distance, which opens up possibilities for more international visitors and a broader catchment area.

For us, it is important to have variety, so that the center is filled with life, ideas, and businesses that together create an attractive whole.

Are you interested in establishing a business in the central area?

Contact us and we will tell you more about the opportunities in Syterbyn.
